transcent 3. old stars

Come on, we'll break down this state
For once we will not have to take
Just sigh and put down our stakes
Sit some cool place beneath a new sky
Point out old stars, still cold and dry

Put our arms around ghosts
Who've all come this far
Who've all fought the most
Who've tried to do right
Who've tried not to cry
Who've tried to just find
Some small peace of mind
And are laughing from deep
In the back of their throats

We will take to the road
And crash through the moat
And this world will be ours
Before dawn comes with rope
For the balance that's always
Unhinged and rewound
And a silence that seems
Never there to be found

A wrench in the gears who felt nothing but fear
For hands dealt from God's lucky deck
And some dirt that's a speck in life's eye
It's yours, mine, it's everything we've ever seen
Bled from deep in between in hues of some cool, crimson sheen.

Wanting to find a new life somewhere you aren't tied down by the places and people you know. I think "Put our arms around ghosts... who've tried to just find / some small peace of mind / and are laughing from deep / in the back of their throats" is my favorite thing I've ever written.
