Steel towers sigh, lightning falls from darkening skies
A city born of desperation becomes a shivering mire
I will climb across gold glassy eyes soaked in brine
From the depths that one day they will rise
By the window with the shades half-drawn
Watching shadows moving on the walls
As bodies pass the sidewalk by
The patterns from the bars and the blinds
Checkerboard my room through the night
And I cannot let go of every single slight
I've committed without thought, and might
On a sandy hill unsafe above the snow
The ebb and flow of throbbing emotion
Runs the spectrum from high to low
Steel towers rise, rain storms come to lead our lives
Wheeling through the wind's blank eyes
And reeling for a lifetime of quiet lies.
